John Scott Harrison, the Father and the Son of Presidents
Grand Old Partisan lauds John Scott Harrison, born October 4th 1804. President William Henry Harrison was his father, and President Benjamin Harrison was his son. He farmed near Cincinnati.
In 1852, Harrison won election to the U.S. House of Representatives, as a Whig. His party having collapsed, he won re-election as an anti-slavery independent. He voted against a Democrat scheme to extend slavery into the western territories. Thereafter, his political affiliation was Republican.
Harrison died in 1878, age 73. Day after his funeral, grave robbers removed the corpse from the family tomb. It was discovered and reinterred before being sold to medical students for autopsy.
